Mission & Purpose

Compassion For Moms exists to serve every mom as an image-bearer; rooted in Christ and loved by God.

Purpose:

The purpose of Compassion For Moms is to cultivate a space for mothers to walk securely in their God-given identity and equip others to graciously serve mothers through resources, service, and practical support.

Values:

Valuing the life and legacy of a mother and her children is an essential part of Compassion For Moms. Cultivating spaces to lead with compassion for humanity and provide hope in the world we live in today is a daily necessity. Leading with compassion rooted in biblical truths, love, and justice opens up the opportunity for mothers to produce a faith-filled life that is nourishing, refreshing, and restorative in the motherhood journey.

Beliefs:

We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ that shapes the foundation of Compassion For Moms.

We believe there is only one God established in the Word of God. We believe God the Father created male and female in his image (Genesis 1:27), sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and reconciled us back to God through salvation. (2 Corinthians 5:18)

We believe Jesus rose from the grave, offered eternal life for all who believe in Him, and left us with the Holy Spirit. (John 3:16)

We believe Compassion For Moms is a commissioning call to make disciples of all nations in the motherhood community. (Matthew 28:19-20)

A Short Back Story

Between stay-at-home mom duties and waking up each day to cling to time with the Lord, I remember sitting on the edge of my bed in December 2022 and writing “compassion for moms” in my journal. I allowed it to sit for some months as I waited for the Lord to confirm what this was about. I reflected on all the challenges that stood in my way over the past three years as a mother. I prayed. I wept. I repented. I embraced His compassionate love.

Compassion for Moms exists to serve every mom as an image-bearer. A mission to cultivate community connection for mothers who deserve access to resources and a foundational start into motherhood. Every mother has a unique story and thankfully, Christ paved the way for mothers to have access to personal needs and experience the love of God deeply and intimately.

Birth Support

Compassion For Moms exists to serve every mom as an image-bearer through doula care, childbirth education, and discipleship.

  • Birth Doula Care serves the mother through mental, emotional, and physical support. The doula service will include supporting the mother and her family through pregnancy and postpartum. Childbirth education will be an essential part of helping the mother make decisions that serve her best for her birth.

  • Hey! I’m Makayla Harris, a Christian doula ready to serve the Kansas City Community. I look back at my start of motherhood and realize that the Lord was preparing my heart to serve families through childbirth these past few years. It all started with embracing the new joys and challenges of serving my home while learning what it truly means to draw my strength from the Lord each day through pregnancy and postpartum. So, this shirt you see here tells a story.

I believe it is important to hold a space for mothers who desire encouragement in growing a faith-filled life that is nourishing, refreshing, and restorative in the motherhood journey. I am grateful to be certified through A Woman Who Serves which trains women to support families with integrity, dignity, confidence, grace, and cultural diversity as the role of a doula.

I launched Compassion For Moms with the intent to serve every mom as an image-bearer through doula care, childbirth education, and discipleship. Doula care work isn’t just business work, it is ministry work to me. It takes a community effort to support mothers and I am very excited to help bridge gaps and meet family needs through these focus areas. It is a mission field to exemplify what it means to be the light and lead with compassion as mothers birth children into the world.

“We are made in the image of God and when we keep our eyes focused on that, we will see every area where He desires to rescue us so that we can be imitators of Him in His truth and His character”
