A Mother’s Call To Be The Light
Motherhood can feel like a giant in the social media age of endless amounts of online mom advice, books, blogs, and more. I can recall many times in my first-year motherhood when I was looking for the Internet to find a solution to motherhood hardships like; how to overcome postpartum anxiety, help to get your baby to sleep through the night, or even the latest tips on how long to breastfeed.
I was exhausted trying to keep up with the noisiness of social media and Internet gurus. The problem wasn’t the messages I was reading, they were helpful at times. The problem was that I was looking for hope that wasn’t going to give me a heart transformation in motherhood. It wasn’t the space that was going to renew my joy when I was drowning in shame as a new mom.
Mothers have a significant role in the home. We get to decide if we will carry the light of God like a freshly lit candle that illuminates the home, or we decide to carry a burned one that comes with no smell, no light, or no sweet fragrance. As I am no perfect mom; I strive to allow Christ to rule every area of my home. We have the opportunity as mothers to seek Jesus that has already paid the price for any guilt, shame, and condemnation that the world tries to place in our hands.
We can overcome every dark day, moment, or season because we are covered by an Overcomer. God calls mothers to be the light because there is a great impact that can be made in the lives of our very own children.
